| The music video for SAND’s “Country Road”, included in the Japanese edition of their third album “spit on authority” which was released in October 2013, has been officially released! The track is a punk rendition of John Denver’s 1971 song “Take Me Home, Country Road” and is always accompanied by the most insane crowd surfing whenever it’s played in concert. The video has been constructed to tell a story reflecting the uniquely Japanese version of “home” It features Japanese actor Yoshinori Okada portraying a man from the countryside who has left home to work in Tokyo, but decides to visit his birthplace to escape for a bit from his everyday struggles in his new job and life. The members of SAND appear in the video as extras, but there isn’t a single scene of the band playing. Some members of SAND are actually from the countryside originally so for them this video has a special significance to it. SAND’s vocalist Makoto explains: “Through this video we’re hoping people will share in those feelings of isolation, misery, and conflict, the yearning for home, and the recalling of childhood memories and places that most people experience when they move to a big city and go through hard times. We hope it motivates them to hang in there and give it their all.” The video itself contains some starkly realistic and emotional moments and maintains a subdued tone from start to finish. We invite the viewer to pay particular attention to the last scene as the man cries after a touching display of kindness. The raw, free-feeling vocals and overall punk sound contrasts with the nostalgia of the video, making sure it’ll be one you remember. SAND Is currently in the middle of recording and producing their next full-length album and making plans for a US tour this summer. |
